Country of Origin: Japan

Notes:

Genmaicha is one of Japan’s most popular teas made by mixing Japanese Kagoshima Prefecture Bancha tea with roasted rice.

Nowadays a lot of genmaicha variations, such as Sencha Genmaicha or Houji Genmaicha are also offered by different tea producers.

During the firing of the rice, it is not uncommon for rice to 'pop' not unlike popcorn, hence the nickname 'popcorn-tea'. The pleasant roasted taste also reminds people a bit of popcorn. This is a good tea for those who are just beginning to get familiar with the taste of Japanese tea.

The fresh vegetative character of the green tea is imparted on the cup but it is tempered with the baked-like character of the rice. There is a natural sweetness and almost chewy character to the finish of this tea.

This Genmaicha is brass yellow in color, with a light astringency and a rounded finish. Its nutty pecan-like aroma and buttery sweet taste make it a very soothing and satisfying tea.

Ingredients: Premium Green Tea, Roasted Rice, & Popped Rice
