Sustainability & Zum Zum Tea

Overview

At Zum Zum Tea, we believe the ritual of tea should be clean, intentional, and kind to the planet. Based in the United States and sourcing directly from farms in major tea countries such as China, Japan, Sri Lanka, and India, we’re committed to sustainability at every level — from the growing practices behind our leaves to the way our customers brew each cup.

We sell only loose-leaf teas, herbs, and blends — never in plastic or bleached tea bags — and offer plastic-free, food-safe tea accessories to support a pure and health-conscious tea experience.

Our Commitments

  • Ethical sourcing with a focus on transparency, quality, and responsible farming

  • Eliminating plastic from our products and accessories

  • Offering only loose-leaf teas, free from microplastics and waste

  • Using recyclable, compostable, or low-impact packaging materials

  • Educating our community about sustainable brewing practices

  • Reducing our environmental impact through thoughtful design and sourcing

Our Practices

🌱 Clean, Ethical Sourcing

  • Our main teas come from vetted farms in China, Japan, Sri Lanka, and India, many of which use traditional, environmentally conscious methods.

  • We label all organically sourced ingredients on our packaging to support informed choices.

  • We build relationships with our growers to prioritize ethical and regenerative practices.

🍃 Loose-Leaf Only, Always

  • We do not sell pre-packaged tea bags. All Zum Zum Tea products are loose-leaf to protect against exposure to microplastics and nanoplastics often found in mass-market tea bags.

  • Loose-leaf tea is not only better for your health, it also reduces waste and supports a more mindful brewing ritual experience.

🍵 Safe, Plastic-Free Accessories

  • Every tea accessory we sell — including brewers, infusers, and strainers — is made from food-grade stainless steel, borosilicate glass, or compostable materials.

  • We are proud to offer 100% plastic-free brewing options.

📦 Responsible Packaging

  • Our teas are packaged in rice paper-based pouches that use minimal plastic.

  • We’re actively researching to switch to fully compostable or recyclable materials across all packaging in the future.

♻️ Low-Waste Operations

  • Small-batch blending reduces waste and overproduction.

  • Tea byproducts are composted when possible.

📚 Education & Engagement

  • We educate our customers about the dangers of plastic in tea bags, sustainable brewing methods, and responsible sourcing.

  • We support local sustainability events and tea workshops.

Goals: 2025–2028

  • Transition to 100% plastic-free and compostable packaging

  • Expand sourcing from farms practicing regenerative agriculture

  • Launch a refill or take-back program for tins and jars locally

  • Look into third-party certification for microplastic-free practices

How You Can Support
