This lovely single origin tea is a classic Yunnan black tea grown in the county of Simao. This has been picked as a 1 leaf to 1 bud set and processed carefully by rolling the tea into pellets. Like most Yunnan black teas, the tea benefits from short-term aging and develops a malty sweet taste and lovely fragrance with a hint of chocolate and flowers.
This particular single origin tea is a Spring harvest, which is a little less tippy gold, but the taste is more robust. With age it develops a bit more honey mellowness. Black Gold has maltiness, a lingering mouthfeel, strength without excessive bitterness or astringency. Everything you could want out of a breakfast tea. Enough punchiness to make its presence known in the morning, but with enough subtlety to keep you coming back to savor more. And enough flavor to hold up to a couple steps with subtle flavor changes.
